Ward 22 - Gastro-enterology/ Medical Ward
We receive patients mostly from the assessment unit(s) and the emergency Department within the hospital. Elective patients are also admitted for day case procedure working closely with endoscopy and interventional to facilitate this.
Philosophy of Care
•The nursing team in Ward 22 aim to care for our patients using an individualised, multidisciplinary approach, which will tend to their physical, psychological, social and cultural needs. We deliver collaborative patient – centred care based on individual’s needs.
•Each member of staff has a responsibility to deliver highly competent and skilled care based on established nursing and medical standards. Care should be compassionate, culturally sensitive and holistic.
•We will empower our patients and allow them to maintain their independence, by using research based nursing practices, while also offering continuing support, information and education. Our staffs strive for excellence in patient outcomes through evidence based practice and critical thinking.
•At all times we will ensure confidentiality and dignity are maintained, and we will endeavour to include patients, carers and relatives in all aspects of care and treatment, so as to enable participation in the decision making process regarding their care and treatment
•We also aim to provide an effective learning environment for both nursing and medical students, in order to advance knowledge and skills, which will benefit our patients – current and future.
We strive to ensure that all our staff are equipped with the highest level of skills and we run the RCN liver competencies for all staff.
