The Department of Biomedical Science within this Trust are looking for a qualified, HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our team at a Band 5 level.
The successful candidate should have obtained the specialist portfolio or equivalent qualification or experience. They should be able to evidence an awareness and understanding of all areas of the BMS lab.
Duties:
•To work as part of a team of skilled Biomedical Scientists within the BMS department to provide a high quality pathology service.
•You will assist in carrying out the routine work of the Department in order to meet departmental and organisational objectives. To follow Departmental Standard Operating Procedures and to supervise and assist in the training of new and junior staff, including Laboratory Support staff.
Job responsibilities
•To work as part of the Pathology team providing mutual support at all times ensuring that work is completed and that equipment is maintained appropriately. To deputise for the senior staff when appropriate.
•To undertake and comply with all departmental standard operating procedures and quality standards with regard to work selection and methods.
•To assist with stock control and procurement of stock and equipment.
•To participate in monitoring Clinical Effectiveness and the audit activities of the Department and to contribute to the Trust procedures and activities in support of Clinical Governance.
•To be able to identify, handle safely, use and store all substances hazardous to health and comply with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations.
•To work within the Trust Equal Opportunities Policy and promote equality of opportunity at work and equality of access to healthcare at all times.
•To ensure that the use and retention of tissue and biological samples for diagnosis and supplementary purposes (e.g. quality assurance, training, research and service development) conform with the NHS consent procedure and requirements of the Human Tissue Act.
•Effective verbal and written communication skills Methodical with effective organisational skills in the workplace. Able to prioritise workload to work effectively under pressure.
Essential Requirements
•Significant discipline specific experience and knowledge.
•Experience of working within a Histopathology laboratory
•Evidence of Continuous Profession Development
•Experience of Pathology IT systems
•Experience of Pathology Quality management systems
Desirable
•Experience of working within a Multidisciplinary laboratory.
•Experience of writing SOPs
Requirements:
•Biomedical Science degree or equivalent qualification
•HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist
•Desirable: Membership of profession body such as IBMS
