RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Senior Scrub Practitioner you will deliver safe quality care for patients during their peri-operative phase of care. You will carry out scrub duties according to policies and procedures, contributing to quality improvement, and promoting best evidence based practice while promoting a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant healthcare professionals.


CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working alongside the Theatre Manager as the Senior Theatre Practitioner you will be responsible for assessing, planning and implementing the right standards of care to all patients who are undergoing surgical procedures. Your day to day will involve preparing the equipment and instruments according to the needs of the patient and the surgeon's specifications, updating the surgeon's preference cards, ensuring all equipment is checked prior to use, reporting any faults immediately. As the Senior Theatre Practitioner will have a strong ability to plan ahead and co-ordinate the use of supplies, ensuring everything is used appropriately and safely. You will monitor the patient's condition throughout the procedure and communicate effectively when required with other colleagues involved in the procedure. You will be responsible for coordinating all mandatory checks prior to surgery, during and pre wound closure. Part of your role as the Senior Theatre Practitioner is also being responsible for stock control, drug of fluid administration, ensuring accidents or complaints are recorded accurately and contributing to implementing changes in policy or procedure.

EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Nursing Degree
NMC Registration


REQUIREMENTS:

To be eligible for the role, you will need to:

• have at least 2+ years' experience working in Theatre as a Scrub Nurse or ODP with a ENB 988 and or mentorship course.
• Be competent in range of specialities and ideally had some exposure to paediatric cases
• Have a strong ability to be a mentor to junior members of staff and the ability to delegate when required.
• Have an innate attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure.
