THE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The overall responsibility of the Oncology Ward Manager is to oversee the running of the Oncology Service. Work closely with the Oncology Fellow team and the Critical Care Unit Outreach team in identifying those patients at risk. Undertake any other projects or duties as agreed by the hospitals senior management team.

YOUR CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working alongside the Head of Cancer services your role will involve overseeing the running of the Acute Oncology service. As senior management you will be continuously evaluating the service and taking necessary steps for improvement. You will work alongside the Oncology Fellow team and Critical Care team to quickly identify any patients at risk, while working in partnership with other oncology services at the hospital i.e oncology outpatients, to ensure that the patient experience is unified across the department.

Your day to day will involve carrying out assessments on patients, making critical judgements and recommendations and having the ability to effectively communicate complex information to patients on managing their condition and any alternative options available to then. Your role will also involve all aspects of recruitment, working to ensure effective utilisation of staff so that high standards of care are maintained at all times. You will play a key role in the financial budget and ensuring the operational and strategic practice of the ward is communicated effectively throughout the hospital. Developing, planning and implementing new strategies to improve the service will also be a key part of your role, along with being responsible for standards across the ward.

YOUR EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Nursing Degree
NMC Registration
Post Grad Qualification in Oncology

THE REQUIREMENTS:

To be eligible for the role, you will need to:

• Have a strong background in oncology nursing along with management experience and a chemotherapy qualification
• Have an Oncology specific degree or post-graduation qualification in the field would be desirable
• Have a recognised Teaching Qualification or working towards
• Have a thorough understanding of clinical governance and risk management is expected along with knowledge of Auditing, Benchmarking, CQC Framework and KLOE. Y
• Demonstrate a high level of leadership skills along with advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
• Be self-confident along with the ability to work and manage a team.
