RESPONSIBILITIES:
The overall responsibility within this role to work across the medical & surgical ward providing pre and post-operative care to paediatric patients and support to their families. Some opportunities will be available in the acute assessment unit also.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting into senior members of staff you will be responsible for ensuring that the highest standard of care is provided to patients and their families at all times. You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care plans for individual children and advise junior members of staff on how this process is done. You will act as an advocate for your patients, recognising and adhering to their needs and the needs of their families at all times. Working in this role will involve the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients and their families and helping them to overcome any barriers to understanding, while also providing support during distressing or emotional events. Part of your day to day will involve planning discharges from admission, liaising with multi-disciplinary teams as well as other departments and community services where necessary. You will be competent in administering of medication and ensure that clinical practice is evidence based or peer reviewed. You will also be assigned other ad hoc duties by senior members of staff as per the units requirements.
EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Paediatric Nursing Degree
NMC Registration as a Registered Children's Nurse or close to obtaining this
REQUIREMENTS:
To be eligible for the role, you will need to:
• Have experience of working as a Children's Nurse and a valid RCN/NMC pin number or close to obtaining your registration
• Have experience of working in an acute paediatiric setting
• Have basic/intermediate paediatric life support and a good understanding of safeguarding issues
• Be a caring and compassionate nurse with strong attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure.
• Have excellent communication skills and be a good team player.
