Paediatric Intensive Care Nurse-PICU

THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The overall responsibility within the hospital's PICU department PICU assessing, treating, and monitoring young patients under 18 years old who are presenting acute, serious ailments.
YOUR CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting into senior members of staff you will be responsible for ensuring that the highest standard of care is provided to patients and their families at all times. You will work to ensure that each child is assessed and their care is thoroughly planned, implemented and evaluated in a family centred way, ensuring to adequately document everything. You work will to provide care while developing your clinical understanding of the various therapies and drugs used in Paediatric ICU. An integral part of your day to day is to thoroughly understand the use and assembly of the various equipment used with the PCIU department, understanding the necessary safety precautions and regular health and safety checks required. You will be also be competent in administering paediatric drugs and IV and ensure that clinical practice is evidence based or peer reviewed. You will also work to monitor adequate stock levels and supplies. Working in this role will involve the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients and their families and helping them to overcome any barriers to understanding, while also providing support during distressing or emotional events.
YOUR EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Paediatric Nursing Degree
NMC Registration as a Registered Children's Nurse
THE REQUIREMENTS:
To be eligible for the role, you will need to:
• Have experience of working as a Children's Nurse and a valid RCN/NMC pin number
• Ideally have experience in PICU however Paediatric nurses with a keen interest in developing a career in PICU will also be considered
• Have basic/intermediate paediatric life support and a good understanding of safeguarding issues
• Be a caring and compassionate nurse with strong attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure.
• Have excellent communication skills and be a good team player.
