Family leave


Carer's leave is available to staff for when an emergency occurs with someone you care for. Parental leave is available for more extended, planned time off for parents with children under the age of six.

Pay and conditions

 
'Agenda for Change' is a national pay system which governs pay and conditions throughout the NHS.
As a member of NHS staff, you can expect:
 
A standard working week of 37.5 hours
Harmonised holiday entitlements of 27 days per year, plus eight general and public holidays, rising to 33 days after ten years' service
Pay enhancements to reward out of hours, shift and overtime working
Better career and salary progression based on the application of knowledge and skills
Annual values-based appraisal to support career aspirations.
 
All our permanent staff can join our ‘staff bank' to work extra shifts where there are vacancies or to cover leave. Our staff are paid their substantive Agenda for Change rate, making our staff bank one of the most competitively paid in the NHS.

NHS pension scheme


The NHS pension scheme is still one of the most generous and comprehensive in the UK. When you start working for the NHS you automatically become a member and you will get an excellent package of pension benefits.
You can expect your contribution to start at around 4-5% of your salary. The Trust will make a 14% contribution to your pension.

Accommodation


We offer a number of residential properties for staff to use near Watford or on the St Albans hospital site. This is subject to availability and these are available for permanent staff, locums, medical students, Medirest and CP Plus staff.

Childcare

We have a nursery at our Watford and St Albans sites, offering high quality, affordable childcare for children aged three months to five years. The nurseries are open 7am-7pm. 
Subsidised places are currently available to all permanent staff.  Places at the nursery are limited and you need to apply to get a place.
Other nurseries in Hemel Hempstead, Watford and St Albans also offer a discount for our staff

Childcare vouchers

Staff may be eligible to get childcare vouchers to help with the cost of childcare. See more information about whether you could benefit from childcare vouchers.

Workplace nurseries salary sacrifice scheme

Staff who are directly employed by the Trust and using our Watford or St Albans nurseries may be able to save more money by using our salary sacrifice scheme to pay for your childcare costs.
